A mainframe
computer access account and initial password may
be issued to the individual reading and agreeing
to abide by this computer access agreement. This
person agrees that:

Access to the college
mainframe and connecting networks* is a
privilege not to be abused by improper use
of equipment or procedures;

Security will be
seriously observed by safeguarding and
regularly changing the password (and
remembering same and that no attempt will be
made to breach the security of (i.e..
improperly access) another computer account.

This access will be used
exclusively for this person's
authentic academic, administrative, and/or
non-profit community service purposes
relating to the State University of New
York;

Network acceptable-use
policies will be followed on all networks
accessed; and
-
Although private for most
practical purposes, E-mail and other
computer accounts by necessity are not
entirely private because, for security
purposes, the systems administrators require
access to all computer information.
This person also acknowledges
that the potential penalty for mistreating or
misusing equipment, and/or violating security,
is denial of further access to services with
whatever academic or other ramifications this
penalty may hold. Civil and criminal penalties
may also apply. Upon violation or suspected
violation of this agreement, the College
reserves the right to unilaterally deactivate
the account. When or if this happens, the person
thus disallowed access may appeal to the
appropriate department chairman, who may in turn
request that the account be reactivated.
