DEPARTMENTS OF AFRICANA/LATINO STUDIES AND HISTORY DISSERTATION FELLOW - AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY (LECTURER)

The Departments of Africana/Latino Studies and History at SUNY College at Oneonta invite applications for a Dissertation Fellowship in African American History beginning August 2008. This is a one year, temporary appointment. This position grows out of the institution’s belief in the educational value of diversity and a commitment to develop a more diverse faculty. The area of dissertation research may be interdisciplinary, but the candidate must be also trained in African American History.

Duties: While working on their doctoral dissertation, the successful candidate will teach two upper-level courses per semester: one survey in African American History and one course in Africana/Latino Studies. In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate is expected to mentor students, and deliver two public lectures based on their research and to participate in the life of the College and the community. Our highest priority expectation for the Fellow is the completion of the dissertation. Successful candidates will be provided with office space, office support, library privileges, employee benefits package and a research/travel allowance. Salary: $43-45,000.

Qualifications Required: Applicants should be in the late stages (ABD) in their doctoral programs, needing only to finish a dissertation.
