Summer Alternative Work Schedule (SAWS) Program 2024

President Cardelle and his executive team have approved a Summer Alternative Work Schedule Program (SAWS) to provide flexibility and greater work-life balance for employees. The 2024 pilot program will start May 23, 2024 and conclude on August 14, 2024.

SAWS consists of three options: Summer Core Business Hours, a Summer Four-Day Work Week Pilot and a Summer Telecommuting Pilot. As in the past, the Summer Core Business Hours schedule is generally available to all employees unless operational shifts require a different start time as determined by supervisors.

To participate in the Summer Four-Day Work Week or Summer Telecommuting pilot programs:

  • Full supervisory approval is required.
  • Employees must meet eligibility requirements as per the guidelines.
  • Employees may only be enrolled in one program or may choose to opt out of participation in either of the two new programs.

Please reach out to the Office of Employee Services at human.resources@oneonta.edu or 607-436-2509 with any questions or concerns.

Summer Core Business Hours

  • Campus-wide core business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch period*.
  • All units must have coverage during these hours including during the lunch period.
  • Summer Core Hours will apply to all employees who choose not to participate in or are not eligible for other programs (no action needed by the employee).

*CSEA Operational Services employees may work 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. based on operational needs and supervisor approval.

Summer Four-Day Work Week Pilot

  • Work schedules will be Monday through Thursday OR Tuesday through Friday with extended daily work hours.
  • Eligible employees may choose Monday or Friday as their day off for the entire program period – employees may not switch between Monday’s and Friday’s during the program period.
  • Employees in the Four-Day Work Week Pilot may not telecommute for the duration of the SAWS program period; employees may elect to return to the Core Summer Business Hours five-day schedule but may not switch to the summer telecommuting program during the summer period.
  • Employees must submit an application and obtain supervisory approval.
  • All units must have coverage during Core Summer Business Hours, Monday through Friday.

COVID-19 Information

What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

Employees, if you test positive for COVID-19, please follow the CDC’s guidelines for protection from respiratory viruses, including COVID-19, flu, and RSV.

The CDC no longer requires isolation, but employees should be respectful of others they work with in the workplace and follow the CDC’s recommendations:

  • Stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both your symptoms are getting better overall, and you have not had a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medication)
  • Take added precautions over the next five days after time at home, away from others, is over:
    • Practicing good hygiene
    • Wearing a mask
    • Physical distancing
    • Testing when you will be around other people, especially indoors
    • Staying up to date with vaccinations

Individuals who are absent from work due to illness, including COVID-19, must charge leave accruals.

Please reach out to the Employee Services team (human.resources@oneonta.edu or 607-436-2509) if you have any questions. Remember if you are feeling unwell, contact your personal physician and follow their medical advice.
