Thomas Rathbone, Associate Vice President for
Facilities and Safety

Responsible for facilities planning, facilities operations, energy management, infrastructure, construction and Environmental Health & Safety, Tom Rathbone has been with SUNY Oneonta since 1988.  A graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, he served on active duty on a variety of ships prior to leaving active duty in 1983. Upon leaving active duty in 1983, he retained his commission as a reserve officer, serving in a variety of commands, including as Officer in Charge, Forward Logistics Support Site, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, prior to his retirement from the Navy in 2004.


The Department of Facilities and Safety is responsible for Facilities Operations (formerly Maintenance), Facilities Planning, Infrastructure, Energy Management, and Environmental Health and Safety.  While "goals and initiatives" are normally stated in terms of projects, the men and women of the department are tasked with the day-to-day operations and service for the mammoth infrastructure of a small city.
