What new for 2010 in the Sociology Department?

A New Space: Yes, after years of planning, the department will be moving to Schumacher Hall in January.  The old technology center has been completely redesigned with brand new everything: walls, electrical, floor plan - everything!  And the rebuilding of the space has been done with an eye toward environmental sustainability, with special lighting fixtures, floor tile, and even desk chairs!

Notice the curve of the new lobby with the display case to the left, and the new administrative area to the right.

A New Strategic Plan: The Department Planning Committee has been working overtime on the new strategic plan, and it is finally in front of the whole department.  For students, this new plan could mean a new Masters program down the road, complete with a five-year plan that would allow a qualifying student to begin graduate classes during their senior year.

A New Program: Last spring, the College Senate approved a new track and a new minor called Community and Environment.  The minor is now available for registration, and the track is winding its way through the SUNY bureaucracy for final approval.  The track will be one of three options in the Sociology major.
