3/19/2014 - Dr. Fida Mohammad Invited by FBI for Presentation

Dr. Fida Mohammad was invited by the FBI to give a presentation entitled, "Building Bridges Between American Muslims and Law Enforcement Agencies," in Albany, New York. Dr. Mohammad is an expert in Criminology with special expertise in issues related to the Afghan war, relations with Pakistan, and cultural and social issues related to Islam.

There are two special topics courses that will be offered in the Sociology Department in the Spring, and they are:

  1. Sociology of the Body, taught by Dr. Elizabeth Seale; get the flyer

10/25/2013 - Graduate and Professional School Fair Monday, October 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Chase Gymnasium

Calling all juniors, seniors, and anyone thinking of graduate or professional school! You will not want to miss the event that is happening Monday in the Chase Gym, where we will representatives from more than 70 colleges and universities with information about law schools, medical schools, the health professions, business administration, social work, psychology, sociology, engineering, computer science, pharmacy and other arts and science areas.  A complete list of the participating schools is available at the Career Development Center, x 2534.  Information on graduate assistantship and graduate fellowship opportunities will be provided by the schools in attendance.

10/4/2013 - Sociology Department Advisement Session Event 2013--October 25 at the Hunt Ballroom

Please see the announcement and flyer for details about the upcoming advisement event, hosted by the sociology department annually. This is your chance to learn important information about your major, student clubs, honor societies, internships, research opportunities, advice for the future, and more. Attendance at this event provides priority enrollment status for major courses in the Spring. Hope to see you there! (and don't forget to bring your arrow sheet).

9/9/2013 - Deadline for AKD Student Funding Close

If you are a SUNY Oneonta student planning to present a paper or poster at a conference, please consider the opportunities provided by the AKD honor society. Information can be found here. Please note the October 10, 2013 deadline that is fast approaching.

8/30/2013 - Faculty in Residence Program Presents Professor Li

8/20/2013 - Looking forward to a great year with some new faces in the Department!

The days of summer are winding down and activity on campus ramping up. The Sociology department wishes everyone a great start to the new semester and year! This year we would like to welcome our three new faculty members. They are Professors Pavel Vasiliev, Michael King, and Melissa Lavin. Please help us welcome them to SUNY Oneonta.
