What if you got to your junior or senior year and discovered
that:
- you were planning to take a course but it's not
being offered?
- you're trying to get into a course but
can't because you missed taking a prerequisite?
- you're thinking about getting
a job or applying to graduate school, and there are things you should
have done but didn't?
Don’t get into this situation! Plan
Ahead!
We strongly encourage you to sit down with your academic
advisor shortly after you become a Psychology major and discuss the layout
of your entire four-year undergraduate program. You should carefully
read the Recommendations section
of this website in advance – it is
filled with valuable advice that will help you plan well now so you won’t
run into problems later on.
This page contains notes about anticipated
course offerings that should be helpful in planning for future semesters.
Courses typically offered
every semester. Most of the
basic required courses offered by the department are scheduled every
semester. [[[These include…]]]
Courses not typically offered
every semester. Many of
the more advanced courses are not normally offered every semester.
If it is appropriate to your situation, you may wish to discuss with
your advisor or with the course instructor when a course you are interested
in may be offered. [[[Some of the courses
typically NOT offered every semester include…]]]
Special courses. We
are fortunate to have a number of adjunct faculty who have special
expertise in a variety of advanced areas and teach course related to
their specialty. Announcements will be made from time to time about
special offerings that may occur on a limited or one-time basis.[[[Some
of the courses we have offered in this category include…]]]
[[[Courses
offered only occasionally. Some
courses are listed in the catalog but we are able to offer them only
occasionally when a special opportunity arises. Such courses include….]]]
Summer
schedule. The Psychology Department offers courses each summer,
but the course selection is limited and course offerings cannot be
guaranteed in advance. If you are interested in taking courses in the
summer, watch for the tentative summer schedule, which is normally
posted outside the department office early in each spring semester.
[[[Courses typically offered in the summer include…]]]
Sabbaticals
and leaves. Individual faculty may be scheduled for sabbatical
leaves or other periods away from campus. The department course schedule
is planned to take such leaves into account, and all basic courses
will normally be offered on a regular basis. However, there may be
more advanced courses taught by particular faculty members that will
be affected if a faculty member is away. You may wish to ask your academic
advisor about faculty leaves that may have an impact on your class
planning. [[[Sabbaticals and leaves anticipated
in the future include… ]]]

for classes to find out about the Psychology Department Preregistration procedure,
designed to help Psychology Majors help get into the classes they need
or want.
