Department of Physics & Astronomy
Student Organizations

The campus has an active chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS). This chapter sponsors speakers and organizes field trips to industrial and academic laboratories. Discussions concerning this years events are on going at the Physics and Astronomy Club blog. For its activities during the 1983-84, 1984-85, 1986-87, and 1988-89 academic years, the Chapter was given an "Outstanding Chapter Award" by the National Society. This distinction was recieved by only six percent of the more than 500 SPS chapters nationwide. Sigma Pi Sigma, the national honorary physics student organization, also has a chapter at the college. During the past 23 years, over 100 high-ranking Oneonta students have been inducted into this organization.
