Secondary Education: Physics Major Requirements

Note: All education programs are under review to meet the needs of students and the requirements of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher education (NCATE). In addition, the New York State Regents are making some policy changes that are likely to affect the requirements for certificate applicants after February 2, 2003. Students should check with their advisor or Academic Advisement Center concerning course or programmatic changes before matriculating into or registering for courses in these programs.

Secondary Education Programs require a Professional Education sequence including full-time student teaching. A minimum of 36 s.h. is required in the major field and related areas. Variations depend upon the subject specialization chosen.Those seeking a Middle School Extension to the Secondary Certification in order to teach academic subjects in grades 5-6 will have additional requirements.
