Key Terms and Concepts
- Koan - A paradox or a puzzle designed to open the mind to its own secrets, and to free it from its self-imposed boundaries.
- Roshi - Spiritual teacher
- Satori - State or experience of enlightenment
- Zen - A popular Japanese form of Buddhism that emphasizes the direct experience of reality. Based on Ch’an Buddhism from China.
- Zazen - "Sitting in meditation" -- a technique used to achieve the experience of satori.
