Joe Pignato, assistant professor in the department of music, is a composer, musician, and music industry veteran. He has lectured on music composition, improvisation and the music industry at New York University, Ramapo College, NW Vista College in San Antonio, Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, the Crane School of Music and at the Eastman School of Music. Ensembles in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Washington and Indiana have performed or premiered his works. His principal composition studies were with Dinu Ghezzo, Yusef Lateef and Roger Reynolds. He studied drum-set with Sal La Rocca and Max Roach. In 2007, excerpts from his scores were selected for inclusion in “Notations 21” an anthology of composers active in the field of graphic notation (Mark Batty Publishers, 2008). Mr. Pignato performs regularly in atom3, an electro-acoustical trio (atom3.us).
Mr. Pignato has been a speaker or presenter at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, the CMJ New Music Festival, the International Association Of Jazz Educators Convention, MENC, the Gavin Convention, and the Jazz Times Convention.
He has held key management positions at N2K Incorporated, BMG Classics, RCA Victor, ECM Records, CMP Records and Latin Percussion. He continues to consult businesses in electronic commerce, music marketing and music education. Currently, he is consultant to Steven Van Zandt of the E-Street Band and HBO’s The Sopranos on the development of Little Steven’s Rock and Roll High School - a rock music curriculum to be published by Scholastic, Inc. and distributed to American middle and high schools.
Mr. Pignato is currently a doctoral student in the College Of Fine Arts, School Of Music at Boston University. He holds an MA From New York University's Gallatin School and a BA from the University Of Massachusetts, Amherst. |
