Professor receives grant
A State University College at Oneonta assistant professor of music was recognized with grant money for his research on a book about a record label that thrived during the 1920s and '30s.
Charles Dahan, who received the award from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections and the Starr-Gennett Foundation, will use the money to compile a discography of music produced by Gennett Records, the company he researched for the book, "The Complete Discography of Gennett Records, Studio and Affiliates."
Dahan will also present the keynote address at the foundation's annual benefit in
October. He will speak about the importance of the Gennett Record Label, which
released many early jazz, blues and country albums as an independent label in the
early 20th century.
The ARSC grant program encourages the preservation of sound recording to help pique public interest and understanding of recorded sound, officials said.
Dahan has taught at SUCO in the music industry program since 2001, is a two-time Grammy-nominated producer and co-founder of Larchmont Records. |
