do I enroll?
Enrollments in these courses are open to all students, regardless
of major. Many opportunities to perform on campus and in the
community exist through the courses.
An audition
is normally required for placement and/or acceptance into
the majority of the courses. Information on audition times
and course availability is available in the music department
Office.
Ensembles:
Chamber
Singers (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Chamber Singers is a select mixed chorus of 12 to 20 voices
specializing in music composed expressly for a small choir.
Their activities normally include several formal concerts
on campus and in the area, sometimes with orchestra, and a
two-day tour
Concert
Choir (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Students participating in the Concert Choir are provided an
intensive choral experience through the performance of a widely
varied repertoire of major choral music from early medieval
period up to the present day, often accompanied by full orchestra.
Concert
Band (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Concert Band is open to qualified instrumental performers
who are selected by audition. Emphasizes the development of
musicianship and expanding knowledge of music literature.
This group presents a number of public concerts during the
year.
Catskill
Symphony Orchestra (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
The 65-80 Members of this college –community orchestra
include college students and area residents. Works from the
standard orchestral repertoire are performed in the four or
more major concerts the orchestra presents each year.
Chamber
Orchestra (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
The group’s focus in on developing a broad musical experience
by providing students an opportunity to perform and interpret
classical as well as popular repertoire culminating in an
on-campus performance at the end of each semester
Brass
Ensemble (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
The Brass Ensemble provides experience for both small and
large chamber groups in the performance of traditional and
contemporary music for brass instruments. Much emphasis is
placed upon developing basic musicianship through systematic
work on intonation, phrasing, balance, and interpretation.
Guitar
Ensemble (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Small group ensemble which explores the music from the Renaissance
to the present day through numerous opportunities to perform
both on and off campus.
Woodwind
Ensemble (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Small woodwind ensembles are organized for the instrumentation
available to study and perform music chosen from the wide
repertoire available for various small ensembles.
Percussion
Ensemble (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Small percussion ensembles that emphasizes developing musicianship
and is designed to introduce students to literature written
for percussion ensemble
String
Ensemble (Musc 280) - 3 s.h.
Small string ensemble organized for the instrumentation available
to study and performed music chosen from the wide repertoire
available for trios, quartets, quintets, etc.
Classical
Guitar (Musc 270) - 3 s.h.
Guitar techniques and fundamentals through a diverse repertoire
that emphasizes classical styles, but also includes jazz,
folk and popular styles.
