Sasha Matson studied art history and music at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and graduated with College and Major Honors. He studied composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, working with noted composers John Adams and Elinor Armor. He founded the Steel Chords Ensemble, which commissioned and presented contemporary music in the San Francisco region.
