FIVE SUNY-ONEONTA STUDENTS WIN SUNY CHANCELLOR'S AWARD
FOR EXCELLENCE
ONEONTA, N.Y. --
Five seniors from the SUNY College at Oneonta were among a select group of
State University of New York students chosen to receive the 2006 SUNY
Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan will
present the awards to the students at a reception in their honor at the
Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany on April 10.
The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence is the highest honor
that SUNY bestows upon students. It is presented annually to SUNY
students who demonstrate academic excellence and integrate it with other
qualities such as leadership, athletics, community service, creative and
performing arts, entrepreneurship, or career achievement.
The five SUNY-Oneonta students chosen by SUNY to receive the 2006
Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence are as follows:
- Jessica Garabedian, Adolescence Education: Mathematics major
from Baldwin
Throughout her college career, Jessica has been recognized for her
outstanding academic achievements and athletic ability. She was
named to the SUNYAC All-Conference first-team in lacrosse and was
honored as the Women's Lacrosse SUNYAC Chancellor Scholar-Athlete in
2005.
- Aubrynn Nealis, Art major from Delhi
Aubrynn has won multiple awards and scholarships for academic
excellence. Her work has appeared regularly in student art exhibits
and regional shows. Through a teaching assistantship and substitute
teaching, Aubrynn has made significant steps towards her career in
art education.
- Teresa Tartaglione, English major from Sound Beach
Teresa has been an academic role model for other students through
her work as a peer advisor, her receipt of numerous awards and honor
society inductions, and her being awarded a National Education
Association grant for literacy education.
- Alexander Vito, Psychology major from Diamond Point
Alexander has served as a teaching assistant/student mentor and has
received the Psychology Department's highest award for his
"commitment to integrity, excellence and scholarship." He has
presented research at various scientific conferences, was an officer
in the Psi Chi national honor society in psychology, and regularly
volunteers for community activities.
- Aimee Wolons, Computer Science major from Middletown
Aimee's academic recognitions include the Provost's List, Dean's
List, and Ryder-Michalak Scholarship. She has maintained her high
academic standards while contributing to the college community as a
resident advisor, Very Influential Peer, orientation leader, help
desk technician, and member of the Terpsichorean Dance Company.
Since the program was implemented in 1998, forty Oneonta students
have received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence,
including twenty-seven in the past four years.
