SUNY Oneonta combines high academic quality with
relatively low tuition. Financial support for international students is
extremely limited.
F-1 and J-1 regulations allow students to work on campus for up to
twenty hours per week when classes are in session and up to forty hours
per week during vacations, but such employment cannot be guaranteed.
OAS International Scholarships are funded by the Organization of
Auxiliary Services. These scholarships are for new international
students entering SUNY College at Oneonta beginning Fall 2002. These
partial-tuition scholarships of $2,000 USD per year are awarded to
applicants based upon their outstanding academic achievements as
evidenced by grades on transcripts (or mark sheets), results on national
examinations, and by SAT test results as well. These scholarships are
renewable for up to four years. To be renewed, the international student
must maintain his/her full time status and a minimum GPA of 2.5 during
the academic year.
To be considered for an International Student Scholarship, one must
complete the International Student Application Form and provide all the
academic documents and test scores as listed on the form. No additional
scholarship application form is necessary.
Through the generosity of OAS, returning students with GPAs of 3.5 or
better may qualify for book awards ranging from $75 to $300 each
semester.
COSTS
Current costs for the 2006-2007 academic year are estimated to be
$21,910* for international students. This is the amount that is shown on
Form I-20 or IAP-66, the certificates of eligibility for student visas.
As expected, some students spend more money per year while others spend
less. Students and their sponsors should recognize that tuition and
other expenses may increase from year to year.

Some SPECIAL NOTES about the estimated costs:
-
ALL students are required to pay for some specific fees per semester.
These fees are mandatory.
-
ALL students must be covered by health insurance. SUNY requires that
students purchase health insurance under SUNY's approved policy or have
comparable alternative coverage. If you have comparable coverage, you
must show our office proof of that coverage and complete a Waiver
Request Form.
-
ALL students living on campus are required to have a meal plan.
Several plans are offered. Students living off-campus are also eligible
to receive a "commuter meal plan." Very limited cooking facilities are
available in some campus residence halls for occasional, simple food
preparation.
-
Residence room costs are based on a double
occupancy (two people per room.) Single rooms are rarely available
and cost substantially more. Quads (two double rooms with a study
room) and suites (three double rooms with a study room and bathroom)
are available at a higher rate. Residence and dining halls are
closed during all but brief vacations. The Office of International
Education will help students find housing during breaks if needed.
International students wanting to live off-campus are responsible
for finding their own housing.
-
ALL students are required to pay a minimum of one-half the annual tuition, fees,
and on-campus room and board charges at the beginning of each semester.
Payment may be made by cash, traveler's checks, VISA, MasterCard, Discover
card, or internationally negotiable checks payable in US dollars.
-
These expenses do not include summer tuition or living expenses for
dependents. Please contact the Office of International Education if you
need estimated summer and/or dependent expenses.
