Staff Assistant
– Office of International Education – Positions for Fall 2012: 4-5 positions available.  Start date:  August 13, 2012 (no later than August 15, 2012).  Hourly rate is above campus minimum rate, $8.50 per hour.

(5-20 hours per week during semester); 40 hours available during qualified academic breaks and new student airport pickup week, up through start of courses.

Job Duties:

•Assist UPD and OIE staff members during airport pickup week – day and late evening hours required.  Must be able to assist with student baggage handling, estimated at 50 lbs each.

•Provide assistance to Director with correspondence and marketing to Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Middle East, India, China, Africa, as well as U.S. territories.

•Provide campus tours to visiting faculty and administrators, and students, answer phone calls and monitor front desk/lobby area, greeting visitors to OIE.

•Respond effectively to prospective international students (all cultures who will be corresponding in English) via dedicated OIE email account.

•Provide administrative/clerical support to OIE.  Prepare promotional materials for mailing. Pickup and deliver interoffice and external mail.  Provide translation for presentations and OIE website upgrades.

•Assist Director with mailings, travel plans and logistics.   Travel with Director to SUNY Community College recruitment fairs and individual visits. 

•Assist with setup for special events such as new student orientation, study abroad fairs, transfer fairs.

•Assist with activity programming for international students.  Note:  Students with Dreamweaver software and Adobe Illustrator skills also encouraged to apply.

Requirements:  Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications, respect for confidentiality, and must be highly dependable.   Job requires excellent English verbal and written communication skills for interaction with faculty, staff members, visitors, and predominantly English speaking students (for study abroad). 

Reports to: Director of International Education. Assists OIE Secretary, Study Abroad Coordinator, and Student Advisor/Plan Adminstrator.
