Location and Demographics

SUNY Oneonta offers an exchange program at Hanze University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) in the city of Groningen, which is located in the northern region of the Netherlands. Groningen is considered a university city, with over 50,000 students living in a city of approximately 200,000 people. The students contribute to and enjoy the vibrant cultural scene in Groningen.



Academics: Semester and Academic Year

Exchange students at HUAS can choose from programs in a number of different subject areas, including, but not limited to, Business, Art, and Communication. Several programs offer coursework taught in English.

Academics: Summer Program

HUAS offers a 3-week “Doing Business in Europe” program through which students can earn up to 6 U.S. credits.
The Doing Business in Europe program gives students the change to visit large multinational companies (e.g. Phillips, ING, KLM/Air France, Meyer Werft, Kraft Foods), and consists of lectures from international guest speakers, workshops and more.  A cultural trip to Amsterdam is included in the program, as is a trip to Germany for business excursions.
The Summer School program coursework covers three main topics:
Marketing: How European markets work.
The Eurozone: Prerequisites and consequences of economic and monetary integration and a comparison between the USA and Europe.
Intercultural Awareness: Understanding and appreciating cultural differences and their effects on successfully carrying out business in Europe.
The program is open to students of all majors, but is ideal for Business students.

Housing

HUAS has a Housing Office that assists international students in finding housing among its 10 international student houses and 1200 furnished rooms.

Application & Deadline

Applications should be directed to the SUNY Oneonta Office of International Education only. A completed SUNY Overseas Application is due to the OIE by April 15 for Fall or Academic Year study, March 1 for Summer study, and October 1 for Spring study.

Prospective Students

Our Location Founded in 1889 in “Honor and Good Faith,” the College is strategically located in beautiful upstate New York. Oneonta is home to the Foothills Performing Arts Center and just 30 minutes to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
The campus is surrounded by 360 degree mountain views and is close to the Catskill Mountains. Upstate NewYork is a four-season state with mild summers, cool nights, and beautiful spring foliage. Fall is colorful and winters offer plenty of snow, ideal for snowboarding and skiing. The campus is 4.5 hours to New York City (NYC) by bus and 1 hour from Albany, the capital of New York and a major shopping area.
Oneonta has a progressive, local and interstate bus system running 7 days per week with routine stops on campus. DowntownOneonta is walking distance from SUNY and has local shopping, unique gift shops, restaurants, farmer’s markets, and entertainment in this historic city. A nearby shopping mall is a short distance to the campus by bus.
The Albany International Airport is just over 1 hour away—The OIE office provides free airport pickup for new student arrivals. JFK International Airport is also within reach and has an Airtrack/railway/bus system direct to Oneonta.
