Location and Demographics

Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) is located in the Tokyo suburb of Hachioji, which is about one hour be train from downtown Tokyo. The University's location is ideal for students, as it is situated in an area with many amenities, but still within close reach of the center of one of the world's greatest cities.


 

The Campus
TMU is highly ranked among Japanese universities, and has an undergraduate student population of 6,900 students. TMU has seven campuses; however, exchange students study at the Minami-Osawa campus.

Academics: Semester and Academic Year
Students may study at TMU for a full academic year or spring semester. The Fall semester begins in October and ends in February. The Spring semester begins in April and ends in August.

Classes are available in English in several subjects, including biology, biochemistry, the humanities and social sciences. TMU also offers 7 levels of Japanese language classes.


Academics: Summer Program
Students can participate in a 3-week summer program at TMU, earning 6 U.S. credits. The summer program focuses on Japanese language and culture, and includes field trips that are designed to increase students' understanding of Japan.

Housing
Exchange students live in furnished apartments that are located within 30 minutes from campus by shuttle or public transportation. The apartments are shared with single bedrooms and a common kitchen and bathroom.

Application & Deadline
Applications should be directed to the SUNY Oneonta Office of International Education only. A completed SUNY Overseas Application is due to the OIE by March 15th for Academics Year and Summer study, and October 15th for Spring study.
