Founded in July of 1989, National Chung Cheng University (CCU) is a highly respected research institution that strives for academic excellence, internationalization, and active interaction with the global community. The University consists of 7 different colleges including the colleges of Humanities, Science, Social Science, Engineering, Management, Law, and Education. CCU aims to provide its students with advanced skill and profound knowledge in their respective fields of study and instill in them the ability to confront the challenges of the 21st century.

Location and Demographics

Located in the southern region of Taiwan outside the city of Chiaya, the University has a large and modern campus on a hill surrounded by trees. Many different architectural styles are reflected in all of its main buildings, with the administration building, a Chinese step-pyramid style building, as the centerpiece of the campus. The city of Chiaya is home to over 270,000 people and is approximately 3 hours by high speed train from Taipei, the nation’s capital.

The Campus

Approximately 12,000 students attend CCU for either undergraduate or graduate degrees. CCU offers a large selection of undergraduate classes taught in English, particularly in the subjects of Business and Economics. You may view the full list of courses offered in English for the Fall 2016 semester.

Summer Program

Each year, CCU offers a 4-week International Summer School (ISS) program. The theme of the 2016 summer program will be “Global Leadership and Sustainable Development.” Students normally receive 4 credits for the program; however, students may earn up to 2 additional credits if they complete additional coursework. For more information about ISS see the ISS Program Brochure.Students who apply for the 2016 summer program will be considered for a $1000 scholarship that can be applied toward their program costs.

Internship Opportunities

CCU offers an 8 – 10 week paid summer internship at Big-4 accounting firms in Taipei, as well as at other internationally recognized firms in Chaiyi. The internship stipend is approximately $600 per month. In order to complete a summer internship, students must have first completed the spring semester exchange program.

Housing

CCU has on-campus dormitories that are available to international students. Four students share a room, which includes a bathroom, phone, and balcony. Dining halls and convenience stores are located close to the dorms, and offer inexpensive food for all students. Cost

The cost of living in Taiwan is much lower than it is in the U.S., which makes Taiwan a very affordable study abroad location.

Application and Deadlines

Applications should be directed to the SUNY Oneonta Office of International Education only. A completed SUNY Overseas application is due to the OIE by November 1 for the Spring semester, and by April 15 for the Summer and Fall semester programs.

Prospective Students

Our Location Founded in 1889 in “Honor and Good Faith,” the College is strategically located in beautiful upstate New York. Oneonta is home to the Foothills Performing Arts Center and just 30 minutes to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
The campus is surrounded by 360 degree mountain views and is close to the Catskill Mountains. Upstate NewYork is a four-season state with mild summers, cool nights, and beautiful spring foliage. Fall is colorful and winters offer plenty of snow, ideal for snowboarding and skiing. The campus is 4.5 hours to New York City (NYC) by bus and 1 hour from Albany, the capital of New York and a major shopping area.
Oneonta has a progressive, local and interstate bus system running 7 days per week with routine stops on campus. DowntownOneonta is walking distance from SUNY and has local shopping, unique gift shops, restaurants, farmer’s markets, and entertainment in this historic city. A nearby shopping mall is a short distance to the campus by bus.
The Albany International Airport is just over 1 hour away—The OIE office provides free airport pickup for new student arrivals. JFK International Airport is also within reach and has an Airtrack/railway/bus system direct to Oneonta.
