Academic Programs

• The Department of Human Ecology offers the following academic programs:

• B.S. in Dietetics
• B.S. in Food Service & Restaurant Administration
• B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education (offered in conjunction with the Division of Education)
• B.S. in General Human Ecology
• B.S. in Human Ecology with Emphasis in:

• Apparel and Textiles
• Apparel and Textiles 3-1 Cooperative Program with the
  Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)
• Child Development and Family Studies

• Post B.S. Certification in Family and Consumer Sciences Education
• A Web-based Graduate Dietetic Internship
   

• In addition, the Department participates in six minors and two concentrations:

• Child Development (Interdepartmental)

• Accreditation

Programs are accredited by The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the undergraduate Dietetics program has developmental accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). • Majors

There are approximately 400 students majoring in Human Ecology programs. Internship and study abroad opportunities abound

• Class Size

The number of students enrolled in classes in the Department ranges from 12 - 50. Twenty-five students per class is the average.
 

• Faculty

There are 11 full-time and several adjunct faculty. All classes are taught by faculty and all majors have an assigned faculty member as their academic advisor.
 

• Student Organizations include:

• Food and Nutrition Association
• Student Fashion Society
• Human Ecology Club
• Phi Upsilon Omicron, a Human Ecology honorary and service fraternity

• Modern, fully-equipped commercial kitchen and facilities to serve meals

•  Food science lab with sensory evaluation booths

•  Body composition analysis lab

•  Food and Nutrition Resource room

• Historic Costume Collection 1850 – 1970

•  Department's on-site Child Development Lab that offers a Headstart Program

• Human Ecology houses a 24 station state-of-the-art computer lab

• Computer software includes CAD, MS Office, and CBORD, Adobe Printshop, Page Maker, PC Pattern, File Maker, Snapfashun and Diet Analysis

•  A student lounge and faculty offices
