A BS in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is offered through the Secondary Education Department at SUNY Oneonta. The FCS education program leads to NYS Certification and meets the NCATE standards.
The curriculum has four dimensions: general education, content education, professional education, and field experiences. These dimensions are intended to produce professionals who will be effective facilitators of learning. The courses taken in education prepare you to plan, implement and evaluate programs for a wide range of students.
FCS Education students obtain a second minor in General Human Ecology which provides them with the broad knowledge of the family and consumer science disciplines. Courses are taken in the following areas: apparel and textiles, child development and family, food and nutrition, consumer studies, housing, and interior design.
