A BS in Family and Consumer Sciences Education is offered
through the
Secondary Education Department at SUNY Oneonta. The
FCS education program leads to NYS Certification and meets
the NCATE standards.
The curriculum has four dimensions: general education,
content education, professional education, and field experiences.
These dimensions are intended to produce professionals who
will be effective facilitators of learning. The courses
taken in education prepare you to plan, implement and evaluate
programs for a wide range of students. Major
Requirements
FCS Education students obtain a second minor in General
Human Ecology which provides them with the broad knowledge
of the family and consumer science disciplines. Courses
are taken in the following areas: apparel and textiles,
child development and family, food and nutrition, consumer
