In 1974, Food and Business was developed as an interdisciplinary program. In 1998, the Food and Business program was revised and renamed the Food Service and Restaurant Administration Program. Courses were renamed to reflect the broader mission of the program. Course content is revised on a continuing basis to keep current with the changing demands of the foodservice industry. Food Service and Restaurant Administration majors have numerous employment opportunities in the rapidly growing field of Foodservice management. Careers include restaurant management, hotel operations, the resort and cruise ship industries, catering operations, institutional foodservice, sales, purchasing, corporate management, etc. Our program provides opportunities to develop leadership potential and professional/technical depth--two keys to success in the hospitality industry.
FOOD 239: Restaurant and Catering Management has students planning, preparing and serving meals to paying customers. Students rotate through culinary, service, and management roles as they progress through the semester. View some pictures of students in the course.

Majors complete courses in food science, food service management, business, nutrition and liberal arts. There is also a 600 hour work experience/internship degree requirement. Students have met this requirement through internships with exciting companies like Walt Disney World, Red Lobster, Chicago Brewery and Restaurant, Resorts, Recreation & Travel Management, Sodexho/Marriott Corporation, and more.
