The History of Dietetics at Oneonta
1972 to the Present............40 Years of Success
Food and Nutrition programs were developed in 1969. The Dietetics program has been revised numerous times since its inception in order that the current requirements of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics are met or exceeded.
In 1972, the Dietetics major was approved
In 1974, Food and Business was developed as an interdisciplinary program.
In 1998, the Food and Business program was revised and is now called Food Service and Restaurant Administration. Courses were renamed to reflect the broader mission.
In 1997, the New York State Education Department (SED) approved Oneonta's program as a licensure-qualifying baccalaureate program. This means that graduates of the Dietetics program have met the SED educational criteria for the Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) credential upon graduation. Applicants for the CDN credential must complete SED's additional requirements for experience and examination and submit the required fee.
In 2001, the Department offered a developmentally CADE accredited Graduate Dietetic Internship.
In 2008-2009 this program was expanded and offered for the first time as a CADE accredited combined Dietetic Internship Master Degree program. The first class received their degrees May 2009.
The latest curriculum revisions become effective fall 2012. The program is accredited by ACEND of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to offer a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).
