There are three major steps to becoming a Registered Dietetian (RD):
1. Obtain a BS in Dietetics from an accredited program
2. Complete an accredited post-graduate dietetic internship
3. Write the national R.D. exam
The entire process normally takes 5 years to complete but may be longer depending on individual circumstances. Acceptance into an accredited dietetic internship is very competitive and is based on undergraduate high GPA, extensive work/volunteer experience, and strong recommendations from employers and faculty members. Faculty advisors and the Director of the Dietetics program work closely with students throughout the program to help them achieve their professional goal of becoming an R.D.
