
Major/Minor
THE HISTORY MAJOR
This major provides undergraduates with a broad introduction to the study of history. Organized around the principle that all areas of the globe have significant pasts worthy of special attention, the major is structured so that students can choose their primary and secondary areas of study. In addition, the major will acquaint students with the broad themes, specific facts, and methods of historical inquiry. This program also encourages students to view history as a lifelong activity that will enrich their lives and broaden their perspective.
STRUCTURE
Students will designate two major areas, each nine (9) semester hours, and a third area of six (6) hours. The areas are:

The major must include:
Course selections (upper division) in Designated Area 1 9 s.h.
Course selections (upper division) in Designated Area 2 9 s.h.
Course selections (upper division) in Designated Area 3 6 s.h.
HIST 290: Historiographic Seminar 3 s.h.
Prerequisites: SoS, 9 s.h. history (6 s.h. 200-level)
HIST 300: Senior Seminar 3 s.h.
Prerequisite: C or better in HIST 290
History selections (upper division) 6 s.h.
NOTE: Students are limited to one 3 s.h. internship (HIST 397) out of History selections 6 s.h.
TOTAL: 36 s.h.

THE HISTORY MINOR
With the exception of students registering as history majors, the curriculum minor in history is open to all undergraduates. It is designed to stimulate a growing interest in history, and the questions and methods that play a significant role in how it is produced.
Students planning to undertake this minor should register their intention at the History Office, Netzer Administration 225, phone 436-3326.
