Linking Together Canadian and American History

A Web Project by HIST 394

Samantha Mitchell, Maria Parella, Andrew Bennett, & Dr. Jeff Fortin

Welcome to North America!

This website is intended to be a sourcebook for those interested in discovering the interconnectedness of Canadian and American history. Throughout the spring semester of 2008, here at SUNY - Oneonta, our class has compared and contrasted American and Canadian history to the Reconstruction and Confederation eras. A small seminar, HIST 394 "North America to 1872" offered Sam, Maria, and Andrew the opportunity for initense discussions, debates, and independent learning. Most importantly, HIST 394 offered a platform for Samantha Mitchell, Andrew Bennett and Maria Parella to hone their skills as historians.

Our main goal has always been to build this website. With that in mind, Sam, Maria, and Andrew idenitified important topics in early American and Canadian history, developed research projects on these topics, and helped build & design this website to share their work with the larger academic community in New York and around the Globe.

At left you will find links to introductory essays that cover a broad range of topics, historical maps, and annotated bibliographies offering a brief overview of scholarship available on select topics. Feel free to peruse our research to gain more insight into the relationship between Canadian and American history.

This is a work in progress; new items will be added all the time.

Enjoy!
