AIM

M.S. Literacy Education (Hybrid program*)

If you have a Masters in Education, and you're interested in getting certified in Literacy Education, you may do so by taking only a few graduate courses that SUNY Oneonta offers.

Admission Requirements:

All students applying for admission to degree status are required to:

  • Submit a completed application and the $50.00 non-refundable application fee.
  • Submit a copy of a New York State initial teaching certification in a functionally relevant area. (Teaching certificates from other states will be considered.)
  • Submit an official transcript of an earned Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college.
  • Have achieved an undergraduate gpa of 2.8 overall and a 3.0 gpa in the major field during the last two years of undergraduate work.
  • Complete FLAN 250 or submit documentation of 50 hours of supervised foreign language classroom observation and participation. *
  • GRE Scores Optional.
  • Have earned at least six undergraduate credits in reading or in the teaching of reading.
  • Submit three letters of reference.
  • Complete a telephone interview.
  • Select a clinic site and literacy coach (an accredited reading teacher) by candidate as part of the application process.

    *The format of this program allows for courses to be offered completely online as well as in a hybrid manner (online work and all day Saturday instruction at the beginning, middle and end of a semester)
