General Information and Guidelines
What is GOP?
The
Graduate Opportunity Program (GOP) provides tuition scholarship support to
former EOP, HEOP, and SEEK program graduates, reflecting SUNY College at
Oneonta’s continuing commitment to expand educational opportunities to
underserved constituencies.
This
program is supported by a special appropriation from the State. Acceptance into this program is determined by
the College at Oneonta and depends, in part, on the level of GOP funding in a
given year. Funding is limited and not guaranteed. In the past, there has only been limited,
partial funding available for one or two students per year.
Who is Eligible?
To
be eligible, applicants must be EOP, HEOP, or SEEK program graduates from a New
York State private or public institution of higher education.
Applicants
must also be New York State residents and be ineligible for full funding under the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). See the TAP eligibility guidelines, which are
available at http://www.hesc.com/ (click on College & Adult Students and
choose “TAP-How it Works”).
Applicants
must be formally admitted into a graduate degree program at SUNY College at
Oneonta.
To
be eligible to continue to receive GOP support in future semesters, a recipient
must be in good academic standing and be able to demonstrate satisfactory
academic progress toward the degree.
What is the application procedure?
Students
must complete the “Certification of Student Participation” (Form A) and
“Application for Graduate Opportunity Waiver” (Form B) to apply for GOP. Form A is only filled out once. Form A verifies that the student is a program graduate of EOP/HEOP or SEEK and
needs to be endorsed by the director of the student’s undergraduate
EOP/HEOP/SEEK program and returned to SUNY Oneonta’s EOP Director. Form B is to be
filled out by the student and sent directly to SUNY Oneonta’s EOP Director each academic year for which the
student seeks funding. Both forms are
due by June 1 of the academic year prior to the start of the initial semester
for which funding is requested.
What happens when funding is granted?
When
a student is granted GOP funds, the
award is made for the academic year. Half of the funds granted will be credit to the student’s account at the
beginning of each semester of the academic year. Funding in the second semester of the
academic year is contingent on continued enrollment. Funding for each subsequent academic year
also requires submission of a new “Application for Graduate Opportunity Waiver”
(form B).
