SPANISH MAJOR
Major Core Requirements
(36 hrs)
[for students beginning Fall 2009 and after]
Note: SPAN104 or approved equivalent (i.e., 4 years of high school Spanish) is prerequisite for beginning the major.
- Grammar and Composition-- Complete ALL of the following (9 hrs):
- SPAN201 Review of Spanish Grammar (prereq. SPAN104)
- SPAN202 Advanced Spanish Usage I (prereq. SPAN104)
- SPAN203 Advanced Spanish Usage II (prereq. SPAN202)
- Spanish Civilization-- Required Course (3 hrs):
- SPAN204 Civilization of the Spanish-Speaking World (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN203)
- Literature Core-- Complete ALL of the following (9 hrs):
- SPAN208 Introduction to Spanish Literature (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN203)
- SPAN311 Spanish Literature I (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN208)
- SPAN313 Spanish-American Literature I (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN208)
- Advanced Electives-- Complete THREE of the following (9 hrs):
- Any three courses not taken previously, numbered between 300-399 (prereq. for almost all 300-level courses is C+ or better in SPAN208).
- Major Electives-- Complete TWO of the following (6 hrs):
- Any two courses not taken previously, numbered between 200-399. Note: no more than 3s.h. of Spanish mini courses may count towards the major.
