SPANISH MAJOR
Major Core Requirements
(36 hrs)
[for students beginning Fall 2009 and after]


Note: SPAN104 or approved equivalent (i.e., 4 years of high school Spanish) is prerequisite for beginning the major.
 
 

Grammar and Composition-- Complete ALL of the following (9 hrs):
SPAN201 Review of Spanish Grammar (prereq. SPAN104)
SPAN202 Advanced Spanish Usage I (prereq. SPAN104)
SPAN203 Advanced Spanish Usage II (prereq. SPAN202)
Spanish Civilization-- Required Course (3 hrs):
SPAN204 Civilization of the Spanish-Speaking World (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN203)
Literature Core-- Complete ALL of the following (9 hrs):
SPAN208 Introduction to Spanish Literature (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN203)
SPAN311 Spanish Literature I (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN208)
SPAN313 Spanish-American Literature I (prereq. C+ or better in SPAN208)
Advanced Electives-- Complete THREE of the following (9 hrs):
Any three courses not taken previously, numbered between 300-399 (prereq. for almost all 300-level courses is C+ or better in SPAN208).
Major Electives-- Complete TWO of the following (6 hrs):
Any two courses not taken previously, numbered between 200-399. Note: no more than 3s.h. of Spanish mini courses may count towards the major.
