Department of English - State University College at Oneonta
Department Minors
We offer minors in English, Creative Writing, and Linguistics, and a concentration in English for the Elementary Education Major.
Minor in English
The English Minor provides a foundation for the study of literature written in English and offers practice in writing. Compatible with both liberal arts and pre-professional majors, the Minor allows students to examine culture and human experience from a perspective other than that of their major field. Prospective employers, who often look closely at job candidates' writing and communicating skills, often find the English Minor an attractive applicant.
Minor in Creative Writing
The Minor in Creative Writing consists of 18 semester hours of courses offered by the English Department or accepted by the English Department as substitutions. The specific courses satisfying the requirements of the minor are to be selected under Departmental advisement from the following courses; all require permission of the instructor.
Prerequisites and College regulations apply to minors; see current College Catalog.
Education Majors with an English Concentration should consult their advisor in the Education Department.
Minor in Linguistics
The Minor in Linguistics consists of 18 semester hours of courses offered by the English Department or accepted by the English Department as substitutions.
