Overview:

The Bureau of Water Supply manages, operates and protects New York City's upstate water supply system to ensure the delivery of a sufficient quantity of high quality drinking water. The Bureau is also responsible for the overall management and implementation of the provisions of the City's $1.5 billion Watershed Protection Program and for ensuring the City's compliance with the provisions of the Filtration Avoidance Determination.  The selected candidate will participate in sample collection in the Catskill Watersheds and perform assorted tasks within the ELAP certified Kingston Laboratory. The selected candidate would accompany staff on sample collection runs, assist with sample receiving activities, and deliver samples to the various sections within the lab for analysis.  Additionally, the candidate would prepare samples bottles for use, complete inventory duties, and potentially more complicated tasks based on skill level.

 

This is a paid position.

Qualifications:

Preferred Skills:

Undergraduate coursework in natural resources, chemistry, or related fields; ideally coursework in General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry.  Computer knowledge and proficiency with MS Excel

 

Selection Criteria:

Strong writing skills; effective interpersonal skills; computer knowledge and proficiency with MS Excel; leadership skills; self-motivation; and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
