Academic Service-Learning at SUNY Oneonta

Service-learning offers SUNY Oneonta students an opportunity to enhance the understanding of and connect course objectives through a hands-on service experience with local, state, national and international agencies and organizations. Service-learning is integrated into course work in many different ways: as team driven projects, including a semester-long project; a 10-20 hour model of service; a student initiated project;  through Residence Life living; and learning through service.

The Center for Social Responsibility and Community service-learning program is responsible for:

  • Providing resources to link faculty and students with service-learning opportunities
  • Partnering with community agencies and organizations to enhance the student and faculty service experience in course work
  • Supporting faculty interest in and implementation of service-learning pedagogy
  • Developing faculty incentives for service-learning through fellowships

  • Documenting student service-learning hours on the Record of Service
