Blood Drive: Our center Holds Blood Drives every month. Our next Blood Drive will take place on March 14th, 2013 in the Hunt Union Ballroom. Sign-ups are available at Mills and Wilsbach dining halls. Click on the calendar for times and dates.

Caring connection

Description: Volunteers for caring connections provide a listening ear to those in our community who often feel unheard. Volunteers provide an avenue to much needed services assistance

Lords Table

Description: Volunteers are asked to serve food and also clean up.  Servers will help serve clients and clean dining area and kitchen.

Ninash Foundation
Description: Volunteers are needed to assist with aspects of fund-raising, helping with thank you cards, create donor lists, and office work.

Description: Volunteers are needed to mentor kids from the ages of 12-20 once a month with bullying, conflict, & resolution , & other social skills

Tutor
Description: A volunteer is needed to tutor a 9th grade boy in all subjects. If you are interested please come by the office for more details.

 

 

ESL Tutor
Time: Once a week until May, flexible
Location:  Various locations
Description: I still need to find college students for 3 specific assignments, once a week until May
1. A 2nd grade boy on Saturday mornings at the public library. He is a bilingual Spanish kid and needs help with school homework and reading.
2. Three bilingual Chinese girls during the afterschool program at River Side School, helping with homework.
3. One student to tutor an adult ESL learner at Center St School Wednesday evenings 5:45-->7:30
4.  In general whoever would like to volunteer with the Oneonta school district in the afterschool program, at any of the 3 elementary schools.  This could be helping the kids with homework, reading with them or even teaching a second language lesson with a group of them.

Friends of Recovery (The Turning Point)
Time: 9:00-4:30

Description: Volunteers for reception, housekeeping, meet and greet, and clerical work. The Turing point is a recovery oriented center with related services. Orientation and training provided

Spanish Mentor
 Description:  For students who are able to speak Spanish and are willing to commit to the full semester working with children or families.

Saturday’s Bread
Date: Saturday’s throughout the school year
Time: 9am-2pm
Location: First United Methodist Church on Chestnut Street
Description:  Volunteers are asked to help with set-up, food preparation, and clean-up.  Volunteer your time individually or go with a group of friends.
*Five people are needed per Saturday. Slots fill up fast, so don’t wait!!

EOP Tutor

Location: Center for Academic Excellence – Alumni Hall 101K
Description: Volunteers are needed to be an Academic Center Assistant. Volunteers are required to have a 3.3 GPA or better; Junior or Senior status; knowledge of the subject matter applying for; a demonstrated ability to understand and work well with students. Second semester sophomores with HIGH GPAs may be considered. Volunteers must provide one-on-one or small group tutorial to students in various courses – assist with studying, class notes, test preparation, textbook interpretation, and writing.

The Plains

Description: Volunteers are needed to spend time with the elderly. Volunteers must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and general public, must have compassion for and desire to work with the frail elderly. Volunteers must meet all State requirements.

Canstruction Interest Meeting
Dates: October 17th 
Time: 7pm
 Location: Catskill room in the Hunt Union
Description: You have to see it to believe it. Build Structures out of cans, the food gets donated to local food pantries.

CANO  Intern(formally UCCCA)
Time: Flexible
Location: Across from the YMCA
Description: Volunteers will helping update the database, painting, filing, setting up, etc.

Hearts of Hope
Location: Can Be Done Any Where
Description:  Great for clubs or organizations to participate in. Each ceramic heart kit costs four dollars. You receive each kit and paint them however you desire and then they are sent to a person who is on a waiting list for one.

Hospice Thrift Store
Time: 10-1pm or 1-4pm
Location: 261 Main Street
Description: Volunteers are needed to help sort and hang clothes and help around the store.

Salvation Army Thrift Shop
Time: 9-5 Mon & Tues; 9-8 Wed & Thurs; 9-5 Fri & Sat, 2 hours at a time/day

Description: Volunteers are needed to help tutor in pairs, do workshops for the parents of the children, etc.

Description: Volunteers are needed to help with group entertainment. If you have a talent you can share with them. (group chair exercises or creative movement as well)

 

Adopt-A-Grandparent

Location: Robynwood Home for Adults
Description: Volunteers are needed to “Adopt a Grandparent” at Robynwood. Students need to visit their “grandparent” 2-3 times a month and do activities with them, such as reading.

Big Buddy Programs
Location: Can be anywhere
Description: Volunteers are paired up with a little buddy. You must meet with your little buddy at least 4-8 hours a month. The students are 5-14 years old.

ETV USDA-NRCS
Description: Volunteers are needed to help in reducing soil erosion, conserving our water and improving its quality and developing pride for our country’s natural resources heritage.

YMCA Score Keeper
