PAINTING WITH PASTELS

This class is for all those interested in drawing and painting with pastels. No prior experience with pastels is necessary. We will experiment with various pastel techniques to create landscapes and still life studies. Students should bring a box of 12 Artist's Soft Pastels. A $5.00 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first class day.

This class is for beginning and experienced artists. Students will learn watercolor techniques and interpretations using a variety of different subject matters such as still life, landscapes (from photos), animals and people. If you have never painted with watercolors, then this course is for you. If you have been painting for years but want to continue to develop your skill then this course is for you. Students need to bring a 9" X 12" watercolor pad to class. A materials fee of $15.00 per person will be payable to the instructor the first day of the class.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY

There is natural beauty all around us, but creating beautiful nature photographs requires patience and practice. Most of all, it requires us to slow down and look carefully. For this class, you should know how to use your camera, but the kind you have does not matter. Bring your camera plus two favorite nature photos (printed) with you to class- they can be yours or anyone's. You are invited to stay afterwards for a bring your own picnic dinner and photographing the full moon.

Ever wonder how those big, beautiful bows are made? This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to make a single ribbon bow, as well as a double ribbon bow, along with other little tricks of the trade. These look great on wreaths, swags, holiday trees, and gifts! You will take home several single bows and a double bow. A materials fee of $15.00 per person is payable to the instructor the day of the class. Please bring scissors and wire cutters to class.

SPRING WREATH MAKING

Have you ever looked at a wreath and thought to yourself "That would be easy to make," but never do? Here's your chance to do it! You will be creating a beautiful design on a starburst grapevine base choosing from a variety of beautiful spring flowers and foliage. You have the option to bring in a special embellishment (ie:bird, sign, etc.) to add to your wreath. A beautiful bow will finish off your masterpiece. A materials fee of $25.00 is payable to the instructor the day of class. Please bring wire cutters and a glue gun to class.

MEMOIR: WRITING THE STORY OF YOU I

The difference between an autobiography and a memoir is in the details- a memoir is rich with sensory details, inviting the reader to share in your story. Through a series of prompts and exercises, students will delve into their memories and write the story they've been yearning to tell. Bring a notebook or journal and a pen or pencil to class.

HOW TO WRITE FOR THE INTERNET-INTERNET PUBLISHING

Internet publishing is vastly different from print. It is crucial for writers to learn how to adapt and to know which outlets are worth submitting to and which are a waste of time. The needs of these editors are specific and unique to the medium, and , in addition, agents are out there reading and scouting for new talent. How can you effectively use internet publication to develop a dynamic platform for your creative work? This workshop will teach participants how to navigate the uncharted waters of internet publication.

The instructor will guide you to move from one pose to another on an inhale or exhale. This class is not just stretching, but movement that works on strength building and stretching. Class concludes with a deep final relaxation. Wear unrestrictive, comfortable clothing, bring a mat, water and avoid eating before each class. Practicing barefoot is preferred. All levels of experience are welcome.

ZUMBA Fitness is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that uses international music to keep you moving. ZUMBA is a mixture of four Latin dance styles, including salsa, mambo, cha-cha, cumbia and meringue. This class is so much fun, you won't even realize you're working out.

WEST COAST SWING

Get down, get groovy, get creative, all while dancing. West Coast Swing is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. Review of the basics with fun new moves added in. This dance allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting West Coast Swing in a short list of dances that put a premium on improvisation. No partner necessary! Bring with you a pair of comfortable shoes, preferably soft soled, to help you glide on a hardwood floor and water.

ARGENTINE TANGO II

Tango is danced in an embrace that can vary from very open, in which leader and follower connect at arm's length, to very close, in which the connection is chest-to-chest, or anywhere in between. Argentine tango relies heavily on improvisation. This class will review the basic elements while adding cool moves. Come get creative on the dance floor. No partner necessary! Bring with you a pair of comfortable shoes, preferably soft soled, to help you glide across the floor and some water. .

The Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP). This 6 hour course helps refresh your driving knowledge with a review of safe driving tips. By taking the course you may be eligible to reduce as many as four (4) points on your driving record. If you are the principle operator of a motor vehicle, you can receive a minimum 10% reduction in base rate to your automobile policy each year for three years (check with your insurance company to see if reduction applies). Course consists of instructor lecture, video demonstrations, voluntary audience participation. Registration and payment should be received at least one week prior to first class date.

The Basic Life Support(BLS)course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages(including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator AED, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Proficiency in the skills of this course is a prerequisite for AHA advanced courses in resuscitation, including advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and BLS instructor courses.

This hands-on class will explore these and many other things that we all can use on the internet. Some others include music, movies, photos, and web page creation.

Paddling season starts soon! Come join us in the SUNY Oneonta swimming pool to learn the basics for getting out on the water. For the aspiring kayaker, we'll cover necessary equipment, skills and safety considerations. Along the way, meet other kayakers and practice maneuvering in a safe, controlled environment. Swimming ability is required. Wear a swimsuit and be ready to get wet!

This is an introduction to the fundamentals of aviation for anyone considering becoming a certified pilot. At successful completion of this course, you will be fully prepared to take the FAA written exam for the Private or Sport Pilot Certificate

Join Dr. Richard Kissel, paleontologist, dedicated cartoonist, and Director of Teacher Programs at the Paleontological Research Institution in Ithaca, NY, in a course that covers the basics of drawing and cartooning. Dr. Kissel will demonstrate how amateur artistis can use simple techniques to create a parade of whimsical characters. This course focuses on drawing dinosaurs and other prehistoric critters.

Cooperstown may be known for its beer, but it’s Central New York’s wines that will be explored and celebrated in this introductory wine appreciation course. Discover the “Tasting Wheel” and other tools for finding out which wines you find tasty, things to look for in a good wine, and even how to deal with a pretentious Wine Steward in a restaurant! Dr. Carlyn Buckler, former not-pretentious wine steward, Plant Geneticist, and Education Associate at the Museum of the Earth will teach this course. Come get to know your technology more intimately in this course on navigating today’s most popular devices. Nick DeMarco, student at the Cooperstown Graduate Program and avid techie, will guide you through the basics of getting the most out of your technology. This course will include information on smartphones (specifically iPhone and Droid), tablets, and computers (PC). We encourage you to bring any of these items to class. The last half hour of the class will be reserved for troubleshooting and individual questions.
