Cooperstown Graduate Program

events in Cooperstown

Cooperstown may be a small town, but it holds a variety of events throughout the year. While The Farmers’ Museum has events such as Harvest Festival and Candlelight Evening, there are many events outside of the museums to participate in.

For many students the highlight of the fall season is Pumpkinfest, which occurs over two days in Cooperstown. During the first day of Pumpkinfest there is a weighing of the giant pumpkins, some of which are over a thousand pounds. On the second day, a number of the large pumpkins are hollowed out, decorated, and raced upon Lake Otsego in the Pumpkin Regatta.

In December, the town is decorated with holiday lights, and a facsimile of Santa’s house is set up along Main Street. February has two Cooperstown events that highlight the season and the many activities that take place in the snow. Winter Carnival includes food, live music, sports contests, and a parade of lights down Main Street. Snowfest, features champion snow sculptures and other local events.

During the winter months Cooperstown's three museums and the Glimmerglass Opera co-host a Cabin Fever Film series, which show weekly films from January till March. In recent years, the Baseball Hall of Fame “Hall of Fame Game” has been held in late May, near the end of the CGP semester. Lastly, Cooperstown can also be counted on for fireworks displays at events, including the parades for Halloween, Christmas and a variety of other occasions.
