CADE provides a wide range of tutoring services to students. Ideally, students sign up for our services on their own by going to our online scheduling service, Tracktion at https://tracktion.oneonta.edu.
You can also recommend that students come to CADE for help.
While we require that students obtain their professor's permission before we will assist them with a written assignment for a course, we do not report back to faculty on a student's progress at CADE.
What types of tutoring are available?
When a student has trouble in a specific 100- or 200-level course, s/he will be assigned to a peer tutor. Those assigned to peer tutors will meet once weekly for one hour per session.
If a student is concerned about study skills (time management, test taking skills, test anxiety, etc.) or reading, s/he will be assigned a professionalf tutor. Meetings with professional tutors are treated as a zero-credit class, which is called PROF 090.
Another option for students is a Success Group, which will also be treated as a PROF 090, 5-week mini course. Success groups comprise six students and one professional tutor who work together to develop skills and attitudes necessary for success in college and in life. This group can be used as an adjunct for individual professional tutoring OR as a standalone.
Students who need help brushing up on basic math skills will be assigned a professional tutor.
If a student wants help with a writing assignment (essay, research paper, report, etc), s/he can sign up for a one-time, half-hour appointment with a professional tutor in the Writing Center.
Students who are reviewing for the College Writing Exam or who just want a general introduction to the skills necessary for writing in college may take our Writing Under Pressure Workshop, which is offered several times per week.
Students can sign up for longer-term writing tutoring appointments (two times a week for one-half hour for five weeks) with a professional tutor in the Writing Center. These are treated as zero-credit mini courses called COMP 090.
Professional writing tutors are also available to review students' College Writing Exams.
