Application Information for High School Students

2013 High School Internship Program Application Procedure

In order to be considered for an internship position the BFS must receive a completed application package by 5:00pm on Friday, April 12th 2013Late applications may be considered in the case that specific positions remain unfilled; contact the BFS with inquiries. Application packages are considered complete upon receipt of the following 3 items (click below to download the MS Word Files):

  • Application Form: to be completed by the applicant (must be age 16 or older to apply)
  • 2 Recommendation Forms: to be completed by 2 different individuals who will provide insight into the applicant's character and abilities.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to see that 2 different individuals each submit a completed recommendation form. Recommendation forms are to be submitted directly by the referees. It is important that applicants understand that their applications will not be considered complete unless both of their referees have completed and sent recommendation forms.

Completed forms may be submitted by email or by hard-copy.

E-mail Submissions may be sent to Jeane Bennett-O'Dea: bennetjt@oneonta.edu

Hard-Copy submissions may be mailed to:

Additional Information

High school internships are open to individuals age 16 or older as of June 20th, 2013. The number of positions available to High School students varies from 1-3 depending on funding for a given year; the number for 2013 has not yet been confirmed.  At least one position must be filled by an Otsego County, NY resident, and so in the case that only one position is available, we are required to choose an Otsego County resident if a suitable candidate exists. Students from locales outside of Otsego County are absolutely encouraged to apply, but should be aware of this potential restriction AND must be prepared to arrange housing for themselves.

Important Note: Currently no housing is available at the BFS; please consider this before applying for an internship if you are not within commuting distance of the SUNY Oneonta Campus or the Biological Field Station (north of Cooperstown, NY). See the FAQs for more housing and transportation information.
