The Biological Field Station is a facility of the State University College at Oneonta. The Main Laboratory is located on Otsego Lake just north of the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, NY. It is uniquely situated to provide excellent opportunities for field studies by advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The lab serves as a focus for analytical procedures essential for research activities in both aquatic and terrestrial habitats. It houses collections of local flora and fauna acquired during research activities. There is a large aquarium room, a unique multipurpose laboratory, three analytical laboratories and a library creating a compact and versatile research complex. There are over 10 boats ranging from 14-foot aluminum "john boats" to the specially fitted 45-foot research vessel, Anodontoides. Photo galleries of BFS facilities are currently being constructed; click for a look inside the newly-renovated main laboratory or for a gallery of facilities and resources owned by the Field Station. The Lake and more than 2,500 acres of woodlands, bogs, marshes and ponds provide resources for research experiences in field biology to students in our academic programs. Public concern over the protection and future of Otsego Lake has resulted in support for faculty research endeavors by the Clark Foundation, Mrs. Willis D. Hadley, the Gronewaldt Foundation, other local sources and the State University and its Research Foundation. The State of Otsego Lake, 1936-1996 provides information characterizing Otsego Lake and its watershed. It is the result of 27 years of cumulative research. This publication is now available on this website: The State of Otsego Lake, 1936-1996. Also available are the Field Station's Yearly Publications and Reports. |

All sites on the Internet have their entire webs copyrighted. This includes the graphics files contained within these webs. It is not a good idea to take graphics files from sites unless there is a statement contained on the site which allows this. All the graphics materials within this site are assumed to be public domain. It seems to be a popular belief that if a work does not contain the © symbol or state "copyright" along with the year and name of the person holding copyright, that the work is not copyrighted.
Copyright laws in the United States do not specifically mandate inclusion of this information. Every work is copyrighted
as soon as it is created, even though it does not have any copyright information contained on or in the work. However, without the
copyright information in the media it is very difficult to ascertain ownership. In the case of computer animation, even though
the author may have included copyright information, anyone can put them into a compiler and remove this information. So, just
because you don't see copyright information on a graphic fil">e don't believe that the work is not copyrighted.
We have carefully deleted any animations, art, or pictures from this site for which we do not have explicit permission to use except for those which carry a "distribute freely" tag in this information, and those which the owner of the character or emblem has given permission for recreational, non-profit, use for enhancement of World Wide Web pages with no restrictions on distribution. Other than these, there are no animations, to the best of our knowledge, which carry copyright on this site as there are many animations and other pictures, many of our own included, for which the authors never had intention of exercising copyright control over. For further information on copyright law, please see Title 17 of the United States Code. If you own copyright to an animation on this site and wish it to be removed, please inform us and it will be removed immediately.
