McGrail will enter her first season as head coach at Oneonta, but is certainly no stranger, having played for the Red Dragons and leaving an indelible mark on the program’s history. As the top scorer all-time at the college for both men’s and women’s soccer, she set the bar high for those who have come after her while helping Oneonta become a perennial national contender.
McGrail returns to her Alma Mater after two, one-year stints as a head coach at Tri-State University in Indiana and Oswego. Prior to that she was an assistant coach at Oneonta from 2001-03 and during the 2004-05 academic year. |
As a three-sport athlete, McGrail garnered numerous individual accolades culminating in being the women’s soccer player to be selected as a first team All-American. She finished her soccer career at Oneonta with 137 points and is the only women’s player in the SUNYAC to earn conference MVP honors three times. She was a four-time All-SUNYAC selection and a three-time All-State and All-Region player while leading Oneonta to three conference championships.
During McGrail’s senior year the team reached 20 wins for the first time while advancing to the final 16 in the NCAA tournament. During her four seasons the program put together a 65-15-6 record and made three NCAA and one ECAC tournament appearance.
McGrail also helped lead the women’s basketball and softball teams to the NCAA tournaments during her final year of competition in 2000-01. She was the first player off the bench for the basketball team and was the starting center fielder for the softball team. In softball she was an All-Conference and All-Region player as well.
McGrail also spent three years playing professionally for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in the W-League and was on the team in 2003 when the Piranhas won the National Championship.
McGrail holds both a National and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). |
