Head Coach - Chris Schuler-Ghiorse
Email: SCHULEE@oneonta.edu

chris schuler

Schuler-Ghiorse enters her 11th season as the head coach for both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams.  During her tenure she has continued to build the program through the recruiting process while increasing the number of participants.  Last year she had her first SUNYAC champion in men’s swimming when sophomore Peter Millspaugh won the 200-yard backstroke.

The success in a short time for the men's and women's teams under her guidance is evidence of Schuler-Ghiorse's impact and commitment to building a strong, winning program.  During her first nine seasons the women's program has eclipsed every school record while the men's program has seen a significant drop in many events while increasing in numbers.  In 1999-2000 she was rewarded for her excellence in coaching as SUNYAC Women's Coach of the

Year.  Schuler-Ghiorse's prior success came at Potsdam High School where from 1993 to 1995 she established a women's swimming & diving team that, in four short years, became the Section 10 champions.

Schuler-Ghiorse came to Oneonta after completing her master's degree in sport psychology in 1997 from Springfield (MA) College.  While at Springfield she spent a season as an assistant coach at Elms College.  Her experience at Elms, along with a two-year stint as an assistant at her Alma Mater, Clarkson University, she has proven experience in recruiting and coaching the Division III student-athlete.

A 1993 graduate of Clarkson, Schuler-Ghiorse was the team captain and Most Valuable Swimmer for both the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons.  She holds three school records at the University in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle and was the recipient of the Outstanding Swimmer Award as a senior.

Schuler-Ghiorse is the aquatics director at Oneonta and serves as an Instructor within the physical education program.  She is certified by the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Trainer and in CPR and First Aid.  She also is a certified pool operator and aerobics instructor.
