GHANA INTERSESSION: Preliminary Itinerary January 5---January 18, 2010
Jan 4 - (Mon) Leave JFK to Ghana via London & Jan 5 – (Tues) Leave Newark to Ghana via Frankfurt. Hotel bus to Jaria, E. Legon.
Jan 7 – (Thurs) Initial Tour of Accra: Parl. House, Nkrumah’s Museum, Fort James Castle, Bukom. Urban drop-off at Mokola Market. Some student interviews at NGOs. Buffet & party at Padi’s.
Jan 8– (Fri) Film viewing & lecture from filmmaker Kwaw Ansah at TV Afrika. Visit Artists Alliance, Tema port, Prampram fort & clinic. Evening debrief.
Jan 9 – (Sat) Morn: lectures-History of Accra, Pan-Africanism. Visit Nkrumah Museum. Leave for Tafo. Stop @ Aburi. Visit Kwabeng library site & clinic. Check-in Hotel BlueMich.
Jan 10 – (Sun) Reception with Council of Elders in Kwabeng, late afternoon. Debrief.
Jan 11– (Mon). Morning visit CRIG (Cocoa Inst of Ghana). Box lunch. Drive to Kumasi, Asante Capital, see Kumasi market. Stay KNUST or Treasureland.
Jan 12– (Tues) Morning workshop with Dr. Daniel Amponsah ( Koo Nimo) & his music & dance Troupe, Adadam Agofomma. Visit Manhyia Palace. Leave for Cape Coast. Stay at Sasakawa-UCC campus & Education flats.
Jan 13 – (Wed) Lecture by Dr. Kwadwo Opoku-Agyemang ( #s = (233)423- 3807 Internatal Ed.Office) (233) 244 704625 (cell) on“W. African slavery & slave resistance in Ghana.” Visit Cape Coast Castle. Evening debriefing.
Jan 14– (Thurs) Lecture: “Appropriate technology,” by Prof. Kofi Sam, then site visit Palm nut processing village. Lunch. Then visit Elmina Castle & environs.
Jan 15 – (Fri) Morning- indiv.student projects: UCC Hosp, campus schools, interview at Abusua Fdtn, Global Mamas, etc. Late aft lectures- “Traditional religion and healing,” by Dr. K.K. Anti & Dr. Opoku-Agyemang, "West African Oral Literatures & Traditions." Evening debriefing & student presentations.
Jan 16– (Sat) Early morn visit: Kakum Forest; Drive back to Accra, lunch at Big Millies, Kokrobite. Relax at hotel, student presentations at night.
Jan 17– (Sun) Visit to churches, mosque, Tetteh Quarshie craft market.
Jan 18 – (Mon) Individual projects in Accra & environs. Leave for Kotoka Internatl Airport, 6:30 pm.
