In memory of Dr. Ralph Watkins (Sept 22, 1943-Sept 18, 2007)
Professor Emeritus of African American and American history, received his Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo. His primary area of research and teaching was African American history. He also taught comparative slavery, introductory Africana and Latino Studies, and twentieth century U.S. history. In addition to teaching at SUNY Oneonta where he served as Chair of Africana and Latino Studies for a decade, he served as a consultant with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York, and the New York State Education Department. The recipient of three NEH fellowships, Dr. Watkins also served as assistant editor of Afro Americans in New York Life and History and published on William Faulkner.
